NOLLYWOOD VS HOLLYWOOD: The Journey So Far

Film is an avenue where people’s stories, experiences and culture are shared with an audience. It incorporates both drama and music, sometimes encouraging us to use other senses not associated with audio visuals. Hollywood for a long time, told us stories not just of the Americas, but also of our own culture. They found ingenious ways to tell stories which unfortunately weren’t usually true of ourselves – but as they say, “only the victor writes history”. Thankfully, Nollywood has now started to create a balance using our own experiences, culture and music to tell our stories more accurately to the world. Although, unfortunately, our stories are still tinged with influences from the West and we struggle to get away from it. Tonight’s discussion is looking at how far Nollywood has come, what needs to be done to take us further and what influences we need to shed. This is not an indictment on the hard work that so many talented movie makers are doing in Nollywood. It is actually an appreciation, using a critical eye for the growth and development of the industry.

CONSPICIOUS CONSUMPTION

The substitution of real life with social media has become a scourge where so many "celebrities" lead fake lives and have so many unwittingly gullible followers doing everything to live their lifestyles. People have struggled to separate facts and reality from make believe and packaging. This is what we are discussing tonight. How this problem had eaten deep into the fabric of our lives and how and if it is possible to keep separate from the trappings of social media. Join us tonight on our multistream platform on The MungalowCroonings Show With Abi and Friends. 8pm GMT. ARE WE LOSING OUR CULTURE TO A WESTERNIZED WORLD?

Today's topic is: In a Westernized world is our African identity still relevant? It seems that in our present world the less "ethnic" we can be, at work, school, amongst friends, the language we speak and adopt to teach our children (insisting that they Jean every language except our own) is becoming more desirable and the norm. Why are we so resistant to our cultural identity? Is it truly mainly bad? Or we're buying into a terrible narrative that encourages us to plunder and damage a continent already suffering under gross neglect and decimation. It promises to be an interesting episode as we shall be having a celebrity guest as one of our panelist tonight. So join us on The #MungalowCroonings Show with Abi and Friends at 8pm tonight GMT using the steamyard code and Facebook live... And for the first time, we will be also streaming via our YouTube channel. This means that anybody with a smart TV can now view the show directly from the TV. YOUR DEALBREAKER IN A RELATIONSHIP?

In today's world, people get into relationships for various reasons. Some are for the age old reasons of procreation and companionship. Others are for financial comfort, mental dexterity, physical attributes and so many others. And while it is recognised that for diverse people, there would be diverse acceptable expressions of love, there would also be diverse situations classed as "Red Flags". Using the law of averages, we want to discuss tonight what attributes and situations should and could be classed as Red Flags and what appropriate responses are for them. Obviously, the panel will have different views but that's what we celebrate on the show. Mungalow Croonings With Abi and Friends Facebook: https://www.fb.com/MungalowCroonings-...
